Almost three years ago, I was nearing the end of my undergraduate degree in sports management and exercise science from Peru State College when I was asked if I would be willing to start as an intern and design a wellness program for American National Bank in Tecumseh. I was pumped. I started working with five females on both their nutrition and exercise. Within six months time, the group had seen dramatic weight-loss and a few improvements in overall health. Since Tecumseh is a decently small location, this started to cause quite a bit of buzz around town as everyone was beginning to ask what "The Bank Ladies" were doing. The word started to spread that Kesha Beethe was the "Hitler/Drill Sergeant" behind this phenomenon, but that is not true at all.
The following year a small fitness facility in Tecumseh, Kuhl's Workout, was looking for a way to attract more members, so I started a two month program instructing group fitness classes titled, "Kesha's Boot Camp" which focused primarily on resistance training, interval work, and included weekly emails educating each member more on nutrition being fuel for your engine. After the two months were over, the members were pretty well hooked and wanted more! So, we revised a few things and tried it another time (this time taking on a few more members). The programming included everything from the previous session, but started to include pre and post assessments, more high intensity interval training, and an extra workout option on Wednesday nights at the community building. Following this session, the importance of community, nutrition education, and the emphasis on overall well-being played a far larger role in the success making it clear this was more than just a boot camp... we were essentially creating engines with impetus. We changed the name of the classes to 57Fitness, as that was my idea for a facility if we were to ever open one.
At this point while we are still a very small facility, we are proving it is really about doing what you can with what you have that makes a big impact, just like any life journey. We are a facility that loves hosting various events and offers monthly memberships, personal fitness and nutrition training, 50+ Fit Classes, and REX (previously titled 57Fitness) classes.
